Socrates

If you had lived in Athens when Socrates did, would you have liked him?  If he was your next door neighbor now, do you think you would like him?

  2. You know, I do like philosophy and Socrates had a lot of good things to say. I'd probably have mixed feelings about him if I lived next to him---I'd love it when I needed advice or words of wisdom, but I'd probably be annoyed at the same time that he was so much smarter than me! :)

I would love to live next door to anyone who lived that long ago--including Socrates--just to see what people were like and how they thought back then. He sounds like the type of guy that it would be fun to take a plate of grandma's delicious chocolate chip cookies over to once a week and sit on the back patio eating them and discussing the issues and philosophies of the day.
What a pleasure that would be!

I would have liked him if he was a quiet neighbor because I don't think they had glass windows back then or other things that would keep the noise out. And he probably spent a lot of time reading and writing so I'll bet he was pretty quiet. Except he did a lot of home schooling himself so maybe there were a lot of his acolytes around and maybe they were noisy, especially at recess.
