World War I

What are the important things you should know about World War I?

"Trench Warfare" is an essential term to remember.  You can learn a lot about what it involved at PBS's site, The Great War.  The Canadian War Museum has a really cool interactive adventure called "Over the Top" and BBC has a neat trench warfare game.

At History.com, you'll find a great slideshow of World War One leaders.  To watch their videos, you must first view a short ad, but then you can watch segments about causes of the war, sinking of the Lusitania and World War One firsts.

Another thing to remember about WWI is the way Europe's map changed so dramatically.   You can see a before and after map here.

For a quick and very interesting read, take a look at World War I in Numbers.  It will provide a perspective unlike any other source.

Lastly,  you should also be familiar with the poem, "In Flanders Fields."   A nice animated presentation of it can be found here.

If you'd like to do more studying about WWI, you'll find loads of information at firstworldwar.com, BBC's site and pbs.org.

  2. Dear Mrs. Tatiana,

I recently watched a movie called The Basket . This movie took place during world war I. It was about an orphaned boy and a girl who were German, but living in the United States. I wrote a post about this movie. Here is the link: http://victoria-miriamsmoments.blogspot.com/2011/11/basket.html. I think your students will enjoy this movie.
